Most of my patients suffer from cataract. A cataract is a clouding of the lens in eyes that affects vision. Mostly cataract is related to aging. Cataracts are very common in older people. More than half of the Americans either have a cataract or have had cataract surgery by the age of 80. Cataract can occur in both eyes. It won’t spread from one eye to another. The lens behind the iris and pupil works like a camera lens and it focuses light onto the retina at the back of the eye, where image is recorded. The lens is made of water and protein. But as we age the protein may clump together and start to cloud a small area of the lens. Usually my patients have cloudy or blurred vision and also have a bad night vision. Many of the people won’t consult a doctor until the problem becomes severe and this leads to surgeries. So anyone who have such problems consult a cataract specialist immediately.
